HOW TO INSTALL WORDPRESS 2.8.3 ON UBUNTU 9.04 LINUX XAMPP 1.7.1 SERVER

This tutorial will show you how to install WordPress on a Ubuntu 9.04 XAMPP for Linux 1.7.1 Apache web server. This allows you to experiment and run your own WordPress blog from a personal Apache web server with PHP and MySQL database support.

This should be very similar on other versions of WordPress and XAMPP for Linux, so it applies to other versions as well.

In order to begin, first go to http://www.wordpress.org and download the tar.gz file, which is shown here:

Hey Gustavo,
Yes, you can have as many websites on your server as you want, but you must use
names such as domain names or what I call "fake domain names" to access
them separately.

running wordpress on localhost

I have WordPress running on localhost, thanks to your excellent video. I have a
small problem, though. In the WordPress admin panel, I tried to "add
media" to upload a picture. When I chose the file to upload, I got the
message: "Unable to create directory
/opt/lampp/htdocs/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/201 0/06. Is its parent directory
writable by the server?"

Any ideas on what I should do to get the right permissions?
