STEP 3 - CREATING AND SEEDING TORRENTS

The last part of this series is putting uTorrent and RivetTracker together and to start sharing your files and torrents with your friends, yourself, or the world.
You now have everything you need for a powerful file-sharing system that allows you remote access to your files and, in my opinion, provides the best way to share and access files over the internet.

There's a third component I was going to include called TorrentFlux, but after trying to install it on a Windows PC, I quickly realized it was designed only to run on a Linux machine and would take some major re-configuration to make work on a Windows server. So therefore that's going to have to wait for a Linux tutorial on this topic.

GETTING STARTED

You will need to have already followed my tutorials on installing uTorrent and RivetTracker for this tutorial to be of any help. There's other trackers out there that you can use and you don't have to create your own to share torrents, but the whole purpose and mission of this site is about creating your own web server, not using someone elses.

In this tutorial, I show having installed uTorrent on a seperate computer asside from the server the tracker is installed on because this is a good idea to regulate server load. But you CAN actually run a bittorent client to serve as the initial seeder for your torrents on the same server as your torrent tracker. It can also ensure there's a 24/7 seeder in case your other seeders are all offline. There's ways to limit the bandwidth as well, so it is possible to configure it this way if you like. Just be sure to avoid using "localhost" or "127.0.0.1" and use whatever IP/Domain people will be accessing your server on.
