OVERVIEW
This tutorial shows you how to install OpenCart 1.3.2 on a Windows XAMPP 1.7.2 local web server. OpenCart is a free eCommerce shopping cart / online store software script that allows you to customize the look of your ecommerce store and sell your products online.
I tested a few scripts based on looks and most importantly, based on functionality and compatibility and a few really good potentials failed due to compatibility issues with PHP 5.3, which is the new version and the one that comes with XAMPP 1.7.2. But OpenCart performed amazingly well, was easy to install, and had a pretty good selection of themes available for it to get you started. It also had a really good-looking store front, which I felt was probably one of the most important features such software had to have.
first of all, thanks a lot for this tutorial, it helped me a lot. I have a doubt about the install dir that is supposed to be deleted after the installation. I don't want to screw up and delete the wrong folder. Could you point me out where exactly is the install dir that should be deleted and why do I have to do this? thanks
Hey Renato, I'm not sure what installation directory you are referring to.
There isn't any other directories other than where you chose to put the files. XAMPP is just an extraction program, meaning it's just unpacking all of the files into whatever folder you choose.
after we finish all the install process, the opencart page shows the message: "don't forget to delete your installation directory". there are two install dir inside the xampp folder 1) c:/xampp/install 2) c:/xampp/htdocs/install - which is the one we copyed from the upload folder from opencart rar file
Once more, thanks a lot. You guys rock. I never thought I would get this answer so fast. In a matter of minutes you solved my doubt. Keep on with the great work. Do you know why do I have to remove it?
