How to install MySQL 5.1.37
If you have installed XAMPP, then you do not need this tutorial.
This tutorial will guide you through installing your MySQL 5.1.37 database server for Windows XP & Vista 32-bit/64-bit. In this tutorial, I am using the essentials installer.
You need to download it from http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/mysql/5.1.html#win32
I have gotten several messages from people saying they were getting this error when trying to start their MySQL server:
Mysql installation: error 0
or
The service could not be started. Error 0
or
Could not start the service MySQL.

I think these are all pretty much all the same error and I've included how to fix it during installation in the tutorial. If you've already installed MySQL server, watch the second tutorial further down on how to completely remove MySQL so you can install a fresh copy according to my tutorial below and get it working.
Now watch this video on how to install it:

HOW TO REMOVE COMPLETELY REMOVE MYSQL
One of the issues I had with removing MySQL was on some instances, it left the service still running and I couldn't install/start a new copy of MySQL server until this issue was resolved. In the following tutorial, I demonstrate how to remove all of the files associated with MySQL and if the service is still running, how to remove it as well.
