This tutorial will guide you through how to install Apache HTTP server 2.2.13. I highly recommend using XAMPP to do this, but if for some reason you wish to do it the hard way, here's the steps on doing so. If you've already installed XAMPP, you do not need this tutorial.
This will install ONLY a http server and will not have PHP, MySQL, phpmyadmin or anything else with it. Those will need to be installed seperately, which I discuss how to do that in the following tutorials.
I recommend using the installer version, which is what I'm using for this tutorial. In the download section, locate the file for Win32 Binary including OpenSSL 0.9.8k (MSI Installer) and download it.
Then watch this tutorial on how to install it.
I wrote these tutorials in a series-style format, so next I recommend proceeding to:
I have Installed Apache on my PC but my problem is when I open my browser & type http://localhost it shows me a dialog box asking for user name & password, So what password & user name should I do provide it. Please reply me as soon as possible.
That's a really odd problem, because you shouldn't be seeing that. Here's the only possibilities I can think of: 1) You installed XAMPP and you've commented on the wrong tutorial. Uninstall XAMPP and try re-installing it, because you need to know what password you set for the user and what username you specified.
2) You already have server software on your PC and it's overriding your Apache install. Make sure Apache is running first off. Then try http://127.0.0.1:80 and see what happens. Usually Apache won't start if another server is running already.
Beyond that, I really don't know because I've never heard of that happening before.
I go to http://httpd.apache.org/ to download the Apache, but that site tells me to use a "Mirror Site", when I select a Mirror Site it just sends me to a bunch of directories...I have no idea what to do from there...

!!REMEMBER: Support Forums!!
I still keep getting requests for support in the comments of posts and unfortunately I cannot give adequate responses due to the fact there's limited space and it just isn't the right place for support.
I therefore am encouraging visitors to PLEASE go to http://forum.myownserver.info for any support related questions. You will NOT receive any spam or anything you don't specifically subscribe to! I'm very meticulous about this myself and if at any time you need help stopping notifications from posts you previously subscribed to, contact me and I will promptly fix the issue.
@adriandenoon At Drupal, read this: http://tinyurl.com/nobaddrupal . Although, I'm writing a new post with encouraging news now!
