How to install XAMPP 1.7 for Linux Fedora 10 and Ubuntu 8.10

HOW TO INSTALL XAMPP 1.7.0 FOR LINUX FEDORA 10 AND UBUNTU 8.10

This tutorial will explain how to install XAMPP for Linux, formerly known as LAMPP. This will install all of the following components:

Apache 2.2.11, MySQL 5.1.30, PHP 5.2.8 & PEAR + SQLite 2.8.17/3.3.17 + multibyte (mbstring) support, Perl 5.10.0, ProFTPD 1.3.1, phpMyAdmin 3.1.1, OpenSSL 0.9.8i, GD 2.0.1, Freetype2 2.1.7, libjpeg 6b, libpng 1.2.12, gdbm 1.8.0, zlib 1.2.3, expat 1.2, Sablotron 1.0, libxml 2.7.2, Ming 0.3, Webalizer 2.01, pdf class 009e, ncurses 5.3, mod_perl 2.0.4, FreeTDS 0.63, gettext 0.11.5, IMAP C-Client 2004e, OpenLDAP (client) 2.3.11, mcrypt 2.5.7, mhash 0.8.18, eAccelerator 0.9.5.3, cURL 7.19.2, libxslt 1.1.8, phpSQLiteAdmin 0.2, libapreq 2.08, FPDF 1.6

I have created two seperate tutorials on how to install XAMPP for Linux using two very popular distributions of Linux, Ubuntu 8.10 and Fedora 10. Both of them are almost identical installations, but I went ahead and created them both anyways. I'm not real familiar with Linux and I'm pretty much learning it as I write these tutorials, so that's part of the reason I'm using two different distros of Linux.

The good news is they've made XAMPP easy to install even on Linux for beginners.

So let's start with downloading the file.

Go to http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp-linux.html and download XAMPP.

I recommend downloading it to your desktop or placing it there once it's finished downloading.

For how to install XAMPP on Linux Fedora 10, watch this video.

For how to install XAMPP on Linux Ubuntu 8.10, watch this video.

Now that you've finished that, you can go and check out some of the options you have for adding on to your website and putting content on it by going to Step 2- Choosing Components (add-ons).

hi, first i wanna congratulate you for your website, i think it's awesome to
create your own and share it to people.

So i wanted to ask you,i have apache installed in my linux ubuntu 8.04, and it
works ok, i already made it work but it's just html code, and i wanna try the
php and mysql, to improve my website

i suppose if i install xampp i have to unistall apache, because xampp already
installs it, but if i do that, whats gonna happen with my website, will it still
working? if not what do i have to do in order to make it work?

i'm really interested in learning php and mysql, so any help would be
appreacieted so bad.

thanks in advance.

Hey Blackened,
I just now found your comment, so I apologize for not replying sooner. All you
need to do is make a copy of the website content folder that Apache creates and
then place it in htdocs, which is the folder XAMPP creates for the content.
If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to visit the forums!
